Victims and survivors of Jeffrey Dahmer say they want people to see him for who he really was — not the glamorized TV version. See a never-before-aired interview with Dahmer’s father and stepmother that sheds light on the monster behind the man. They provide chilling details about his bizarre childhood behaviors. Plus, the Netflix series Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story pushed a decades-old story into today’s spotlight, some say giving it a 2022 “pop culture moment.” After the series debuted, Dahmer’s infamous glasses went up for sale for $150,000, and people dressed up as the notorious serial killer for Halloween. Has our culture’s obsession with true crime desensitized us?

Check out Part 2 of Dr. Phil’s Interview with Jeffrey Dahmer’s Father here:

His mother leaving him did NOT turn him into a serial killer, no more than Hitler’s rejection from art school turned him into a genocidal maniac. It’s terrifying to accept, but there’s no reliable root for psychopathy.

I couldn’t even imagine how I would react finding out my child did what he did. That would mentally destroy me.

I think the meds his mom was on while she was pregnant should not be dismissed. Those drugs, if given to the wrong person, can change an adults brain for the worse. Now imagine a developing fetus being exposed to all that. Not saying it explains everything, but it could have been a necessary part of all this.

It wasn’t just 1 thing that turned Jeffrey into who he was. It was a perfect storm of many things, including his own DNA.

Wow, the dad’s voice sounds surprisingly similar to Evan Peters’ voice in his portrayal of Jeffrey Dahmer. They did pick a really good actor to play him in that Netflix show. Both of them, actually.

Now that he’s passed away I feel a bit of relief for him that he no longer has to constantly have the thoughts of what his son had done, that must have been imaginable of what he has mentally went through

The fact the father and Evan Peter’s played the roles so well in Dahmer on Netflix is insane… they even sound alike.

0:00
how would you describe Jeffrey as as a
0:03
youngster
0:05
when you were growing up excuse me Dr
0:08
we don’t know we don’t we don’t relate
0:11
to Jeffrey okay Jeff he’s Jeff okay
0:13
thank you let me ask you some things
0:15
that I think these are right and
0:18
accurate from your book I understand
0:21
that
0:22
hindsight is 20 20. so I’m sure
0:25
that these things will look different
0:28
now
0:29
but Jeff was fascinated with a rotting
0:33
animal carcass under the house
0:35
and played with the bones and referred
0:38
to them as fiddlesticks it was a
0:40
terrible smell so I went underneath and
0:42
cleaned it out
0:43
the smell of the skunk and cleaned out
0:46
whatever else was under cans and bones
0:48
and collected them all and Jeff did seem
0:53
to exhibit an interest in the way they
0:55
clanked as he picked them up and put
0:57
them back into a metal pail he just
1:00
laughed at it the sound of it and that
1:03
was it it was said that he had even
1:06
impaled a dog’s head on a stick and this
1:11
again is something you only learned
1:13
about in the trial the trial I asked him
1:16
about that and he said that it was back
1:19
in the woods two neighbors away from us
1:22
I saw a picture of it so he admitted
1:24
that that was true
1:26
he said he found this dog
1:29
I don’t know if it’s really true to be
1:31
honest with you but he told me that he
1:33
found this dog that that he decapitated
1:35
and put on a stake and do you believe
1:40
that there were warning signs that as a
1:44
father
1:45
you should have seen if your kid is
1:48
going around collecting dead animals
1:50
cutting them open and exploring them and
1:52
that sort of thing that how do you not
1:55
know that well as I said it’s heavily
1:58
wooded very rough terrain and there are
2:02
a lot of hiding places he was extremely
2:05
secretive and and devious
2:09
tell me about the locked wooden box
2:12
you confronted him about several
2:15
occasions my mother had complained about
2:17
seeing some pornography around
2:20
so when when I made the visit to
2:22
Milwaukee I saw this box in the closet
2:26
room I said I’m going to open it and I
2:29
started going down to
2:31
the basement to get a tool to open up
2:33
the box and he kept complaining that he
2:36
couldn’t even have one foot square of
2:38
his own property to do with what he
2:41
wants
2:42
and I said I’m going to open it anyway
2:45
find out what’s in here
2:47
because that’s what I thought it was
2:49
something related to pornography and in
2:52
fact he convinced me to just wait wait
2:56
till tomorrow dad he said
2:58
and I’ll I’ll open it for you then but
3:01
just don’t do anything now I don’t want
3:04
to disturb grandma because she was in
3:06
nearby room and she heard all this
3:08
commotion
3:10
that I was going through with Jeff and
3:13
so I I I’m in a way I’m glad but I’m in
3:18
a way I’m not glad that I didn’t press
3:20
it because I don’t if I would have
3:23
opened that box and found what was in
3:25
there I think I would have lost it then
3:27
the next day he opened and he said see
3:29
this is this is what it was and in fact
3:32
he had stuffed some pornographic
3:34
magazines in there but we now know the
3:37
Box contained a human hair yes and it
3:41
would have stopped and I said well what
3:44
would you have done Jeff if I had opened
3:45
it
3:46
and he said something like
3:49
The Jig would have been up
3:51
something non-emotional non-committal I
3:54
could have
3:55
more lives would have been saved how old
3:58
was he when his mother left and took his
4:00
brother
4:01
he just turned 18. what effect do you
4:04
think it had when she left and took his
4:08
brother but not him
4:10
Sherry and I Came Upon Our House and
4:14
Jeff was uh was there all alone
4:17
and Jeff looked like a
4:23
an abandoned animal or how would you
4:25
describe it well he was forlorn yeah he
4:29
he stated later that he felt totally
4:32
it’s the first time he felt so lonely
4:36
that’s when he went out looking for
4:38
someone
4:39
stay with him he was so lonely that was
4:43
the thing
4:44
but we didn’t know he was left alone
4:47
and he had already done this first
4:50
murder he apparently felt so alone that
4:53
he picked up this hitchhiker
4:56
and when The Hitchhiker wanted to leave
4:59
he wanted him to stay so badly he hit
5:02
him with a barbell
5:03
and I
5:05
I kind of think that he it was more of
5:07
an accident than a an intentional
5:12
thought out killing tell me when you
5:15
tried to deconstruct this in your mind
5:18
and say how in the world could this
5:21
child that I laughed with that I
5:23
wrestled with that used to run and jump
5:27
on his grandmother and joy and
5:30
excitement how could he wind up to be
5:33
this
5:35
murderer this serial killer I thought
5:39
that he
5:41
at some point in his age 12 to 14 when
5:46
his he was coming out of puberty his
5:49
sexual engine so to speak was
5:51
was in high drive
5:54
and he was touching the insides
5:57
of these animals that he just sort of
6:00
got hardwired neuronally into connecting
6:04
the sexual pleasure
6:06
with this type of activity on Trails
6:10
insights of
6:11
bodies
6:13
I that’s the way
6:15
I thought about it after thinking about
6:18
it for a while first I couldn’t fathom
6:20
how he turned out to be this far down
6:24
the Continuum I mean we’re all on a
6:26
continuum
6:28
we all
6:30
do bad things we all sin he was at the
6:33
extreme of this Continuum I couldn’t at
6:36
first understand how he could have done
6:37
those things
6:39
did you ask him did you say Jeff how in
6:43
the world
6:44
could you
6:46
make this okay in your mind I was
6:49
concentrating mostly on getting him into
6:52
a psychiatric hospital I didn’t ask him
6:54
that specifically but I did tell him
6:57
Jeff we’ve got to find out how on Earth
7:00
you could have done these things
7:04
for a question for me click the link in
7:07
the description and tell me what in the
7:09
world is going on
